Refurbishment Information
Aims of the project
To rectify the structural faults in the main hall, make all areas accessible to the elderly and disabled by lowering the kitchen area, and to generally improve the standards of accommodation to enable wider access and activities for the whole village.
Beneficiaries
The refurbishment will benefit the whole village and is being supported by the Parish Council but the specific project client is "The Trustees of the Village Hall"
Timescale
Project starts 15th March 2004
Completion of front facilities - mid October 2004
Final completion - Mid December 2004, possibly earlier
Summary of Work Plan
Kitchen and Committee Room
- Lower the floor to create level access from front to rear of the premises.
- Convert Committee Room to coffee bar area.
- Move serving hatch to coffee bar side.
- Replace existing kitchen units.
(Note the above requires the removal of asbestos and lowering of heating pipes below floors.)
Main Hall
- Remove roof.
- Dismantle existing buttresses and replace with steel girders (hidden) on substantial piled foundations.
- Replace roof to new design incorporating steel structure and fully insulated roof panelling. Top surface to be tiled with tiles matching existing tiles.
- Make new access to new side rooms.
- Redecorate. Note - the existing wooden floor is to be protected and retained.
New side rooms (New Build)
- Create new entrance to the South side
- Create entrance foyer.
- Create new men’s and ladies toilets.
- Create storage rooms to North.
- Convert current men’s toilet into a bike shed. (this is a planning requirement)
Stage area
Johnson Room
- Extend by one bay.
- Create small storage area.
- Provide new access to new Garden Room
Leven Room
- Remove Dramatic Society props room / store.
- Establish new partition at corridor end for separation.
- Create small storage area.
- Provide new access to new Garden Room
- Refurbish.
Main rear corridor/Sewing room
- Provide pitched roof to replace existing (leaking) flat roof.
- Create new access to new Garden Room
- Extend corridor to ‘Boiler-house door’
- Refurbish.
Garden Room (New Build)
- Roof over existing grassed area between the Leven room and Johnson room with a solid tiled roof.
- Provide fully glazed end wall overlooking children’s playground and hills.
- Provide access to other rooms.
Note the extent of the above works will ultimately depend on the available
funding.
